A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. Lao-tse (c. 604-c. 531 B.C.)
The Lord had said to Abram, Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran and headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. Genesis 12:1, 4, 5, 6
One of the distinct elements of landscape photography is great distance. Unlike other fields of photography, it needed elements of nature like mountains, waterfalls, hills, rocks, clouds, rivers, lakes, seas, forests, trees, bushes, fields, white sands and if you are living in the city, you need to travel lots of distances. You need to travel by car. Sometimes, a plane is necessary. By boat at times. And always, by foot! Up, up, up, down, down, hop, hop, walk, walk, walk, run!
Does the road wind uphill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.
– Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830-1894)
An excellent landscape photograph often, not always, requires long travels: the element of great distances. Likewise, a great life is full of long travels. Most especially, when it comes to traveling with God. If you want a great life, it is essential to travel great distances with God. For He is the God of new territories. The God who always leaves the safety of the shore and face the sea of storms. His cloud always travels, continuously moving. Our Shepherd always leads the travels of His sheep from pasture to pasture, from valley to valley. God travelled from heaven all the way to earth, in the form of a human being, just to give an abundant life to mankind.
Abraham travelled some 800-900 miles.
Moses travelled some 1500 miles.
Paul travelled some 1,400 miles in his first missionary journey; some 2,800 in his second; some 2,250 miles on his third.
How far are you willing to travel with God?
Are you willing to leave your house of comfort and travel great distances with God so He could show you the great landscapes He prepared for your life?
Be strong! We are not here
To play, to dream, to drift.
We have hard work to do
And loads to lift.
Shun not the struggle;
Face it- tis God s gift.
Since life is too short, spend it wisely. Travel with God. Yes, He will take you to great distances. Great lives require great distances. Yes, it will not be easy. But He promised to travel with you. And lead you to your Great Landscape of Promise.
