START RIGHT (by Redirecting your Focus)
“I don’t care how much power, brilliance or energy you have, if you don’t harness it and focus it on a specific target, and hold it there you’re never going to accomplish as much as your ability warrants.” — Zig Ziglar
“One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”
“‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Luke 10:25 & 27
The past year was undoubtedly a year full packed with victories and defeats, gains and losses, bad times and good times, bad news and good news, and all the positives and negatives that we can think of. There were certainly a lot of events taken place that in some way, somehow took our focus from God. And probably many times we have wavered and slowed down and come to a standstill. We have looked around in uncertainty and wondered if we made the right choice, if whether we should continue or not on this course.
Maybe the questions in the mind of many right now are, “What should I do next?” “Okay, I screwed up this job, and the doors are closing for me this year. What do I do now?” or maybe, “Hooray! Doors are opening this year for me. But wait, where should I go?” “How do I know that this is the right path for me?” “How can I win this year?”
Before doing any steps this year, “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV
It is important first to redirect your focus to God and to His words. So that whatever may happen in the coming days and months, you are well assured of His hands upon you.
Whether in pain or in gain, focus on faith not fear, focus on giving more rather than receiving, and focus on serving the people rather than serving your pleasures.
And to focus not only means a looking to, but a turning away from, every other objects and item of attraction, distraction and obstruction.
Truth of the matter is that, winning or losing in life is not the issue in life. It is a matter of you focusing and submitting to the Lord’s great plan whatever it may cause you. Winning means to stay in the presence of God and losing means the opposite.
