Beginning with an End in Mind
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” –1 Corinthians 10:31 NAB
Have you ever seen a hamster with its short tail and large cheek pouches running tirelessly in a wheel? It seems like a delightful sight, until we realize that the poor creature gets nowhere.
The quick pace of a hyper-connected world teaches that the fastest wins the race, and those that cannot keep up will get trampled. Without a big picture, a clear goal, or a grand metanarrative, the daily battles wear us out, and sometimes lead us to just throw in the towel.
As the year continues to unfold, may we not fall into the trap of just getting through every day. Let us be reminded that worship is not just part of our life, but it is the Christian life. We have been created to worship God, giving Him glory every moment – whether that is preparing for a company presentation, giving encouragement to a friend, or just gazing at the beauty of the heavens – up to eternity.
Get off that endless, repetitious, and lifeless wheel and walk each moment in worship.
And now the wants are told, that brought
Thy children to Thy knee;
Here, lingering still, we ask for naught
But simply worship Thee.
