Doing Good and Loving It

This is the true joy in life —

being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

~George Bernard Shaw

Doing good can be frustrating at times.

You give up personal comforts for a relative’s needs, and they squander your hard-earned money without giving much thought to the sacrifice behind.

You try to keep an honest job, while scammers amass fortune and enjoy their lives. You try to help by giving a sound advice, and you’re told it’s none of your business.

And yet, we cannot be any less than who we are. A person of noble character will do noble deeds. A true warrior will fight like a real soldier. An outstanding leader will put others ahead of his own safety. A king will give kingly gifts… Because that’s who he is. An honorable man begets an honorable response.

Today, no matter how unfair circumstances may seem, shift your gaze to the Master. Bring your good works at His feet, and wait only for His smile. Just keep on offering. Enjoy lavishing Him with love. It is up to Him to bring about a lasting result to your efforts.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…”

– Colossians 3:23

The Paradoxical Commandments

Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.

Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.

Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.

Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you have anyway.
