2 Timothy 4:6-7
6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Paul obviously finished strong! But after he declares how he fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith- read what he asks of Timothy before he will be executed:
2 Timothy 4:13
When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls especially the parchments.
Timothy was to bring Paul’s study books. He was to bring the parchments—Paul’s copies of the Old Testament. Now in his hour of death he requests for the Scriptures! More than being consumed by the certainty of his death, he was more consumed by the beautiful possibility of learning more about his God!
I like what Mark Batterson said:
“When you stop learning, you stop loving. Why? Because loving is learning more and more about the one that you love. True love is never satisfied. It always wants to know more about the object of its affection.”
In the end, to finish strong is to keep an insatiable hunger to know God. Let your hunger push you to seek more, and seek hard after God! Stay hungry until the end, see you at the finish line!
