“Thoughts lead on to purpose, purpose leads on to actions, actions form habits, habits decide character, and character fixes our destiny”-Tryon Edwards
27 “‘Love the Lord your God…with all your soul…”- Mark 12:30
Dictionary.com defines “soul” as the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans and the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part.
This means that in our soul we establish our principles and we make our choices.
What does it mean to love God with all our soul?
Greg Simas said that, “think of the soul as the ‘core you’”.
The soul is what defines us. Whatever manifests on the outside has been decided first on the soul part. Whatever is acted upon on the outside has been first chosen in the soul. The activity in the soul is what transpires on the outside of the body.
The crucial part here is, the soul is not what others see in our facade every day. But it is where the most dangerous activities can happen that might lead to ruining our life.
To love God with all our soul entails our devotion to love Him in the way we live, the way we choose, the way we think and the way we act.
Now, this may sound overwhelming, but we may start on a day to day basis.
Love God with the choices we make.
Love God with the words we utter.
Love God with the thoughts we think.
Love God with the actions we perform.
To make it more plain and simpler, John 14:15 says, “If you love me, you will obey what I command”
