”Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” –Aristotle
30 Love the Lord your God…with all your strength…-Mark 12:30
With all your strength is the last phrase used by Jesus Christ on how to love the Lord our God completely.
The requirement of loving God cannot be complete by just loving Him with our hearts-the place where our affections and treasures are cherished, with our soul- the place where our choices and principles are established or with our mind-the place where we nurture our thoughts and reasons.
All these three must be completed by the phrase “with all our strength”. This is our love in action. The heart, soul and mind need hands and feet to complete “one thing”, LOVE GOD.
18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”- 1 John 3:18
This means giving God our all, our 101%. The tagalog phrase “pwede na” cannot be accepted as our offering to God.
Serving the God of incomparable Excellence, we Christians must benchmark on Him. And since God- the excellent creator of the heavens and of the earth-is our benchmark, the world should be the one that’s benchmarking on us too and not the other way around.
We should understand more the real ethics in work taught in the Bible.
1.) S-strive for excellence.
10 “…that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ…”-Philippians 1:10
2.) T-take the extra mile.
41 “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”- Matthew 5:41
3.) R-run with the purpose in heart.
26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.”-1 Corinthians 9:26
4. E-endure to the end.
36” You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”-Hebrews 10:36
5. N-never give up.
7 “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”- 2 Chronicles 15:7
6. G-give your all.
10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”-Eccelesiates 9:10
8. T-train yourself.
7 “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.”- 1 Timothy 4:7
8. 7. H-honor God, above all.
9 “Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops…”- Proverbs 3:9
May all these help us all to love our God, with all our strength.
