WEEK 30: Thursday

DAY 4

“You only get one body…If you truly treat your body like a temple, it will serve you well for decades…” – Oli Hille

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] – Matthew 11:28 (AMP)

Living a long life is something that is difficult to attain today because of a ‘hurried’ lifestyle, leaving many people restless and unproductive. While chronological age is simply your age in years, biological age is your age at a cellular level and is influenced by lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, sleep, and stress. How old are you in terms of your biological age?

Dan Buettner, Author of the book Blue Zones, says many people can have a longer, healthier life if they follow some of the lifestyles and values observed among populations where people have long lives. One of these habits is being able to kick back – shed stress and rest.

The study of almost 20,000 young Australian adults (ages 17 to 24) found that short sleep duration was linearly associated with psychological distress, with a 14% greater risk of worse distress for every missed hour of sleep.

Television and Internet are the predominant form of “resting” for most people but that form of “rest” time – the time spent sitting on the couch in front of the Internet and television – is slowly damaging and ruining our lives. Don’t get me wrong. Television and Internet are helpful tools if we learn how to manage them well.

So God offers us a way to kick back:

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] – Matthew 11:28 (AMP)

And that fresh air that God gives is an energy-giving, life-breathing force that empowers us and inspires others through our lives. Be free from feeling stuck in the treadmill of a hurried life.

Andreas Moritz said: “People in poor relationships…age fast. Those who put themselves first in everything are also known to be prone to accelerated aging. By contrast, individuals who care about their health, who often think how they can be of help to others and the world, and who are in a secure and loving relationship, are known to halt the aging process and maintain their youthfulness.”

Reflect. Take a good at your lifestyle today. Live longer!
